I ain’t saying I’m a goal-getter, well actually I am… To put it bluntly, New Year’s resolutions are a pile of crap. So instead of having resolutions, I’m giving myself five 2020 goals which are basically the things I want to achieve next year.
2019 was a pretty rough year all in all. But focusing on the good bits – I managed to achieve quite a lot. From relaunching and rebranding my blog, to monetising it, to working with huge brands like Dior and Steve Madden as well as being flown out on an International press trip. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind year.
I never did manage to finesse a handstand (which was on my list for last year) but knowing how clumsy I am it’s probably for the best. Neck braces ain’t cute.
NY resolutions vs 2020 Goals
You can normally get through January going to the gym every day, blogging every day, avoiding carbs, shunning red wine (delete as appropriate) but then the 1 Feb rolls around and you’re sinking tequila shots and eating your feelings again. By March your blogging schedule is a faint memory and you’ve genuinely forgotten which gym you’re a member of. Virgin Snacktive anyone?
Speaking from experience here – banning yourself doesn’t work. Neither does pretending you’re going to be a new person when the clock strikes midnight. Self improvement yes, new person – no. If you’ve lost a shoe at midnight, you’re not Cinderella, you’re drunk. I’m still going to be the same twat in 2020, just with a few new goals under my belt. Ok, 2020 goals – let’s do this…
2020 Goal number 1: More video content
IGTV – Youtube- Tik Tok, I haven’t quite decided yet, I just know I need to do more videos because that’s the way things are going. I am not the most patient person that ever lived and I’m not very good at editing so this one’s a biggie for me.
You will never know pain until you have to split sound from a video clip and overlay music. And then get the volume to be consistent… I swear that learning a new language would be more doable. But 2020 will be the year of vids. Just putting the warning out there that if you decide to embark on a Tik Tok dance challenge, do so with caution or end up with bruised ankles (talking from experience).
2020 Goal number 2: Win an award
A lofty ambition for someone that has never entered themselves for one. Ok so I’d probs settle for an award nomination, I’m not even sure which award I’d want to be nominated for. But let’s say I’m going to aim for some sort of award participation… which would help me hone in and focus on a niche.
2020 Goal number 3: Take my camera off auto
Self-confessed auto queen over here. I’m no Tim Walker and there’s a reason I spend a lot of time in front of the camera, and that’s because I’m not the best photographer in the world. I upgraded my iPhone to a mirrorless camera, but do you think I’ve taken it off auto? Even with my three snazzy lenses. Categorically no. I know the photos would be so much better, hence why it’s on my list. So much to learn though…
2020 Goal number 4: 10K on Instagram
For the love of all things cheesy, I am so bored of writing LINK IN BIO. As I’ve mentioned I have no intentions of becoming an “Instagram influencer” no shade I just prefer to write, and always have. As I use Insta to promote my writing, I’d just really like to have the swipe up feature so I never have to write LINK IN BIO ever again bc it’s a constant strain on my life. Dramatic, but true.
2020 Goal number 5: More travel
Have you ever downloaded an app and added in all the places you’ve ever visited so it can tell you what percentage of the world you’ve visited? My advice would be, don’t. It’s bloody depressing. I like to think I’m fairly well travelled, particularly with the 6 months I spent travelling Asia so I thought I’d be onto a good score. Spoiler: Nope. Basically, I need to see more of the world pronto. So that’s the goal, now I just need to make it happen – first stop Krakow in Feb.
Always room for improvement
I always find it hard to be content with what I’ve created and I’m my own biggest critic – I’m always thinking what next? How can I be better? Plus I’m very impatient. The “ain’t nobody got time for this” meme was basically made pour moi.. It’s a constant struggle. And then I end up in a constant loop of booking in a million and one things to do. So with the aim of minimal emotional breakdowns this year I’m going to focus on these five things, plan our wedding oh and fit in training for a half marathon obstacle race. No rest for the wicked…
What are your 2020 goals? xo
