Hair heroes: my top 5 hair secrets spilled 

I get a lot of messages asking about my hair – how I style it, where I get it coloured and my go-to styles so I thought I’d put together a lil post of tips and tricks. Who’s ready for hair secret #1…

To be totally honest I’m lazy with my hair and most of it isn’t real. Come on, who realistically has real 20” shiny blonde hair these days…

Hair secret #1 Keeping colour to a minimum

It’s common knowledge that bleach on your locks is bad, so I try and keep colour to a minimum. I get my hair balayaged roughly once a year at Live True Clapham and just let it grow out naturally. – so happy that balayage/roots are a fashion staple these days! Allowing lazy queens like me to live their best lives with minimum effort. 

Hair extensions by Vixen & Blush

I get my hair extensions fitted at Vixen & Blush who are a total dream. I get them taken out and put back in every three months. My pain threshold is lower than your average squirrel so I always low-key dread the refits but it’s always worth it for those sassy hair swishes. They also offer a payment plan so you can pay for your locks monthly (just in case you don’t have a spare £700 to drop on your head). 

Hair secret #2 Always say yes to Olaplex

You know when someone offers you cheese on your meal you’d be foolish to turn it down. The same rule applies with Olaplex – never turn it down when you’re in the salon chair! I don’t know the science behind how it works, but you’re not here for science lets face it. Just know that it makes your hair softer than an Andrex puppy and undoes some of the damage that bleach does. Plus you can buy it from Amazon cheaper than most salons – thank me later!!

Hair secret #3 Beachy waves

My go-to style is loose waves as you can see in the above photo. Super low maintenance and easy to achieve. To get this lewk I wash my hair with Merlin or Redken shampoo, blow-dry my hair of an evening, pop my hair into four plaits (total Avatar vibes) and go to bed. The key here is four plaits over two because if you only use two the waves drop out pretty easily which is super annoying. In the morning, let the plaits out, voila… beach waves. 

Hair secret #4 Bouncy Blow-drys  

I can’t be the only one that HATES washing and blow-drying my hair with a passion, but because looking like Hagrid isn’t generally acceptable it’s one of those things that just has to be done. I solemnly swear if I won the lottery I’d never ever wash and dry my hair myself ever again!

If I’m on a city break and fancy being a bojuee queen I’ll take recommendations from insta pals or look up local salons e.g Top Hairdresser Manchester, check the reviews and book in for a big old blowout. Because, why not!

Hair secret #5 Tongs and a ton of patience 

Another go-to style (when I can be bothered) is loose curls – brought to you by an Andrew Collinge twirl and curl that I’m pretty sure isn’t even in the shops anymore because it’s that old. I much prefer this type of tong over the straight wand because it’s basically idiot-proof. I’ve never been able to master loose curls using straighteners. You girls that can do this are the real heroes.
