The Aperol Spritz Big Birthday Social: London – Review

Sunsets, Garfield, Kenan and Kel, fake tan, orange Wednesdays – remember those, easy-jet (pushing it a bit with that one) but there are so many great things that spring to mind when you think of the colour orange. Top of the list though – Aperol spritz! I was lucky enough to attend the Aperol Spritz big birthday social on Wednesday evening and my did I get my fill of l’orange.

First up, never seen as much orange in my life, aside from being between the ages of 15-17 when I WAS the colour orange. To celebrate their 100th birthday, Aperol is running a series of big birthday socials in London and Manchester. And my, my, my did their events team nail all the details.

The Aperol Spritz Big Birthday Social – what is it?

Effectively an immersive Aperol experience where you can sip on some Venetian classics, dip your toes into an Aperol lido whilst snacking on some aperitivo. I was on a girl date to the big birthday social with Kelsey, a fellow blogger so naturally, I  tried to restrain myself from being too OTT but that, of course, went straight out the window when I threw myself face first onto an inflatable orange slice.

Oh yes, this slice of happiness was a’floating on the orange lido and whilst I managed to snag the pic for the gram – I also managed to dunk my dress in the lido while I was at it. So spent the rest of the event looking as if I had toilet issues – bravo moi. Was it worth it though? Hunna percent yas!

My favourite part of walking into this big open warehouse is that you’re greeted by a Vespa carousel bar – the bar has damn bikes on it. Orange ones, and it moves. There is Aperol being poured left right and centre and there’s even a ball pit to enjoy, served in a giant Aperol glass. For the love of all things tangerine!. You can take in your spectacular satsuma surroundings while listening to the live DJ, have a play in the ball pit or recline in a deck chair underneath one of the many orange trees.

As I mentioned, I threw myself upon the giant inflatable orange slice as soon as I arrived. Do that. It’s super fun, but remember to remove your shoes. I did see a rather over-excited guest try to jump on wearing heels which would have ended her night with a bang, quite literally.

Are you ready to go alfresco? We weren’t really. Although the hot tubs looked like a heap of fun and were cute as anything, housed in actual Fiat 500’s, it was a school night and I’d just eaten my body weight in crispy shrimp just half an hour earlier. Nobody needs to see that! But if I had my time again, and had it been a tad warmer, I’d be in there like swimwear… hot tubs are bookable on the day – first come first served.

I know TLC gave us gals solid advice back in the day to avoid chasing waterfalls but on this occasion feel free to shun their advice and take in the sheer magnificence of an Aperol waterfall. Defo make sure you go and lounge underneath this particular water feature and live your best life, it makes for a fab photo spot too!

• Now! Well –  from 23rd May -1st June (before it heads off to Manchester)
• Advance tickets are sold out but walk-in tickets are still available –  Standard tickets are £10, including 2 Aperol Spritz and some Italian snacks. Any additional Spritz can be purchased for £6 per drink. I’d recommend wearing darker colours just in case you overdo the Aperol and end up wearing it
• Bring swimwear if you’re planning to take the plunge in one of the hot tubs – towels available to hire!

Basically, the event was a total tangerine dream and I would definitely recommend it unless you’re Nigella Lawson (with her shady Aperol opinions) or you’re not a fan of the colour orange. Bc, that shit is everywhere!
