I’ve spoken briefly before about how photography is such an important part of blogging. But I’m going to let you into a secret, I don’t own a snazzy camera…
I take all of my photos on an iPhone 7 (or iPhone X if I steal Demis) avec tripod, sometimes in the most ludicrous settings. Dog walk and balancing the tripod on a tree stump, sure? Jewellery shots in front of the white wall in my front garden, nailing it. Tripod and self-timer are my bae and they keep my relationship solid.
I get by with some help from my tripod
I can manage with my limited photography knowledge and basic equipment for now. That being said one of my goals this year is to invest in a snazzy camera and get better at taking photos. I’ve set myself a goal to buy one this year, with money made only from my blog – as all of my salary savings are being ploughed into my wedding and I tend to work harder when I have a carrot dangling over my head.
I’ve already spied a contender for the top of my wishlist which is the LUMIX full frame camera from Panasonic, now I won’t lie and say I know a great deal about cameras but with 47.3 megapixels, 4K video recording, wifi and Bluetooth it looks like a total beaut of a camera. A girl can dream…
I did A level photography – and passed
I should probably know a little more about cameras and photography than I actually do, as I took A level photography – confession, I left a lot to the last minute and I stole a bunch of my mum’s photos for my final portfolio. Sorry, Mr Stevens!
Getting back to my point – I want to improve my photography skills and take my blog to the next level and I think a new camera will allow me to do that. Another camera that caught my eye – that seems quite popular with bloggers is the Olympus PEN (which even mentions taking selfies in the specs – hello). This camera comes in at 16.3 megapixels which is considerably lower than the LUMIX and has a lower res video spec. But does have lots of fab features like a tilting screen and face detection.
Goal getting and having a plan
I also have heard great things about Nikon and was lucky enough to have had the chance to borrow a friends Nikon whilst holidaying in Budapest and found it super easy to use. I was a little sad at having to give it back if I’m totally honest… that depth of field though!
I always think having a goal in mind really helps when you’re feeling a bit unmotivated and overwhelmed. As most bloggers will probably understand, motivation is sometimes in low supply (more on this here). So keeping my eyes on the prize (or camera) is something that will hopefully help me stay focused on blogging this year.
Are there any cameras that you guys use or that you’d recommend for someone looking to dip their toe into the world of photography? Xo
💖😘

☺️☺️☺️
I have the same system going as you. I’ve got more confident with balancing my tripod on things (or my phone) in public! I have a canon camera as well. It is really good but I don’t use it much as it’s kind of bulky. My phone takes really good photos, so I pretty much just rely on that. I really want to start using my camera more often though (I forget to charge it though so when I do want to use it it never works 😂).

Haha I feel like I spend my life with my tripod balancing on something – and I always forget to charge the remote so I rely on self timer ALOT! The struggle is real ha xx
Haha I always put my phone on video and screenshot the frame I like! 😂😂
